LiPo Battery Safety
|
When using LiPo batteries, it is important to use them safely as improper use can be hazardous.
1. Lithium batteries require lithium chargers. Using the wrong type of charger is dangerous and can cause the battery to explode.
2. If you are using LiPo batteries in a project of yours, always use and charge them supervised. It is a good idea to charge them in an open area and on non-flammable surfaces in case something happens or in case the battery was damaged somehow. Punctured batteries are very dangerous.
3. Use correct battery ratings for your application. Lithium batteries have ratings on their discharge rate. If your project requires a high discharge rate, then using a battery that can not handle the discharge can damage it. The ratings are rated in "C's". A C is a fraction of an hour. 1C will discharge the battery in 1 hour and 10C will discharge the battery in 1/10 hours. Based on the capacity of the battery (mAh) you can calculate the amps the battery can handle discharging.
