LiPo Batteries - Lithium Polymer Battery

Lithium Polymer batteries, referred to as LiPo Batteries, is a type of lithium battery. Like the lithium-ion batteries you use in your laptop, these batteries are much lighter and smaller than NiCad and NiMH batteries and hold a larger charge. The difference between LiPo batteries and Li-Ion is that LiPo batteries do not have a hard casing. Instead they are made with a polymer foil-type laminate case. This allows the battery to take on make shapes and forms making them ideal for use in many electronics. This advantage also allows the batteries to have a higher energy density. When compared to Li-Ion batteries, LiPo batteries can have 20% more energy in the same area. Li-Po batteries also have a longer life cycle than Li-Ion batteries.
Applications
Whatever your application or project is, a LiPo battery may be a great battery to consider using. It is gaining popularity and wide spread use. Electronics such as cell phones, cameras, and pdas are already using them and hobbyists are using them as well in their projects such as remote control planes. There are some points and safety issues to consider when thinking about using LiPo batteries.
